Revenge

Hamlet the Protagonist, is seen throughout this whole play as a confused individual who has low temper, and is bluntly rude to every character. As his father's death and murderer is revealed in an unordinary fashion, his adventure begins...

Theme of Hamlet

The theme of William Shakespeare's Hamlet is hard to pinpoint considering all of the other details which creates this story. As Hamlet, already aware of his fathers murder is now considered to be upset at life, not to mention, his father's murderer marries his mother, and is now King. As Hamlet undergoes obstacles in his life, he is stalling his vengeance toward his Uncle. Hamlet pretends to act foolish while actually loosing his mind in the whole process. The main theme would have to be Hamlet's insanity and his slow actions which potentially gets him insane. Was he actually insane? or not, this is a controversial topic that many people dispute about. Nonetheless, there are many points which prove he is insane, not to mention killing an innocent man in the Queen's bedroom.

Hamlet vs Ghost

Hamlet is 100 percent sure that the ghost of his father is in the room with Hamlet and his mother. However, The queen sees nothing and lets Hamlet know that he is going crazy.

Hamlet's "to be or not to be" speech

To be, or not to be--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep--
No more--and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th' oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th' unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprise of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action. -- Soft you now,
The fair Ophelia! -- Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remembered.

To Be or Not to Be Analysis

In the famous first line of Hamlet's soliloquy, he debates with himself. Hamlet attempts to reason out whether the unknown beyond of death is any easier to bear than life. He wonders if he should keep the pain inside of him trapped and "Suffer the slings and arrows of outrages fortune", or he can oppose these feelings, the "Sea of troubles" and end his problems. He wants to end all the pain and grief that his father's death brought upon him. How serious is he about suicide though? Certainly, he couldn't have been to serious, otherwise he would have committed the deed long ago.
